The interpretive walk leading to the platform was just as fascinating, with details about the area’s geology and wildlife. It was an experience that made us feel truly immersed in the grandeur of the Rockies.

It’s a fantastic way to see Calgary from a whole new angle and reflect on the journey we’d just completed.

A special warm welcome to many of you who are new to receiving my newsletter. I hope you find joy and inspiration from the stories and tips I share about travel.
Summertime is well underway and many of you are creating amazing memories with your friends and family through travel. I’m thrilled to share our recent adventure to the historic and vibrant city of London. This journey was filled with iconic sights, royal traditions, and unforgettable experiences that I can’t wait to tell you about. In fact there’s so much to share, I decided to break it into two newsletters. So, grab a cup of tea ☕🫖, sit back, and let’s dive into our London adventure – Part 1!
Our trip began with a bang at the spectacular Trooping the Colour ceremony, held in honor of the sovereign’s official birthday. The event was a dazzling display of pomp and pageantry, featuring precision marching by soldiers in stunning uniforms, accompanied by powerful military band music.
The streets were lined with crowds waving flags as the parade moved from Buckingham Palace down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Parade alongside Members of the Royal family on horseback and in carriages.
👑 Treated like Royalty! 👑
Witnessing the royal family amidst enthusiastic crowds added to the festive atmosphere. The Royal Air Force fly-over provided a thrilling finale to an unforgettable experience celebrating tradition, heritage, and the spirit of unity. It was truly a day filled with spectacular moments and a reminder of the rich history and grandeur of the British monarchy.
After the ceremony, we had an exclusive visit to the Guards Museum along with a wonderful luncheon. We learned a bit about the museum’s history and purpose from a few of the curators and historians.
The museum tells the story of the five regiments of Foot Guards who have the honor and duty of protecting the Sovereign and Royal Palaces from 1600 until present. There are several exhibits that showcase the proud history of these world-class fighting soldiers from the English Civil War to the conflicts of Iraq and Afghanistan. It was interesting to see the unique collection of artifacts which stretches back some 380 years.
💂 I couldn’t resist the opportunity to “suit up” and try on a “bearskin”, one of the tall ceremonial caps worn by the King’s Guards and other British army foot regiments. It’s quite heavy and was a bit of a balancing act. 💂
London is one of the most popular cities in the world. It’s home to charming pubs, world-class (and often free) museums, tons of history, some of the best theater performances in the world, a diverse population, incredible food, and a wild nightlife.
I know it’s cliche to say there’s something for everyone but, in this sprawling metropolis, there really is! After Trooping the Colours, I hung up my hat, put on my tennis shoes and set out to explore this vibrant and bustling cosmopolitan city! Take a look…
LONDON
Right around the corner from our hotel was Buckingham Palace. What a majestic, iconic and legendary building. The palace is the royal residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the center of state occasions and royal hospitality.
Did you know that there are 775 rooms which include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms. Woah! That’s a lot of rooms to clean! 😂
It was neat seeing the Royal family on the balcony during Trooping the Colours. Royal Balcony appearances have marked many occasions over the years including VE Day in 1945, the Jubilees, an extraordinary Fly-Past by 100 airplanes to mark the RAF’s centenary in 2018 and of course Trooping the Colours like we saw on our visit.
We also watched the Changing of Guards in front of the palace, also known as Guard Mounting, which is always an impressive site! 🏴💂♂️🤴 👸🏼
Discovering the Majesty of Westminster Abbey
Stepping into Westminster Abbey felt like walking through history. This iconic site, a testament to centuries of tradition, left me awestruck from the moment we arrived.
The grand entrance immediately impressed with its Gothic architecture, soaring arches, and detailed carvings. It’s clear why this has been the coronation church since 1066 and the resting place for seventeen monarchs.
Exploring Poets’ Corner was particularly moving. Surrounded by memorials to Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens, and Rudyard Kipling, I felt like I was among old friends. Their stories seemed to come alive in the Abbey’s quiet halls.
The Coronation Chair, used for every English monarch since Edward I, stood as a powerful symbol of history. Imagining the coronation ceremonies that took place there, you feel connected to the significant milestones of British history.
A little-known gem of the Abbey is its College Garden, one of England’s oldest. Dating back over 900 years, this garden offers a tranquil escape where monks once grew medicinal herbs. Today, it remains a peaceful retreat from London’s hustle and bustle.
For visitors, I highly recommend a guided tour. The Abbey’s guides share fascinating stories and insights that bring its history to life. Don’t forget to look up – the ceiling’s intricate design is easy to miss but worth the effort.
Leaving Westminster Abbey, I felt deeply connected to the past. This site invites reflection on the passage of time and the legacies left behind. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture lover, or simply seeking a quiet place, Westminster Abbey is a must-visit in London.
The Tower Bridge & London Bridge: Clearing Up the Confusion
After leaving historic Westminster Abbey, our next stop was two of London’s most famous bridges: Tower Bridge and London Bridge. It’s easy to see why these iconic landmarks are often confused, but they each have their unique charm and story.
Many people, including myself at one point, mix up Tower Bridge and London Bridge. While both span the River Thames, they are quite distinct in appearance and history. Tower Bridge, with its stunning twin towers and drawbridge mechanism, is often the one people picture when they think of London bridges. Built in 1894, it’s a marvel of Victorian engineering and offers fantastic views of the city from its high walkways.
Walking across Tower Bridge, we marveled at its grandeur. The bridge’s blue and white color scheme and Gothic-style towers are unmistakable. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in London’s architectural beauty. We even took the opportunity to explore the Tower Bridge Exhibition, which showcases the bridge’s history and offers breathtaking views from its glass-floor walkway.
Just a short distance away is London Bridge, a site with a more understated appearance but rich in history. The current London Bridge, completed in 1973, might not have the same visual impact as Tower Bridge, but it stands on a site with nearly 2,000 years of history. The first bridge here was built by the Romans, and subsequent versions have played crucial roles in the city’s development.
One fun fact is that an earlier version of London Bridge was sold to an American entrepreneur, who reconstructed it in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This often leads to the myth that London Bridge was moved entirely out of England, but rest assured, the current bridge remains firmly in place over the Thames.
Visiting both bridges offered a fascinating glimpse into different eras of London’s past. Tower Bridge impresses with its ornate design and modern exhibitions, while London Bridge provides a connection to the city’s ancient roots. The contrast between the two highlights the rich tapestry of history that makes London such a captivating city.
Beautiful destinations often lead to everlasting memories!
As our journey through London unfolds, we’ve had an incredible time exploring this vibrant city. There’s still so much more to discover! Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll continue our adventure through London’s iconic landmarks and hidden gems.
Whether you’re planning your own visit or just dreaming of the adventure, there’s plenty more to come.
Ready for your next adventure? Keep an eye on my social media for more travel inspiration and join me on the next journey.
I hope you had a fun weekend. It’s quite cold here in North Carolina but by the end of the week it should be much warmer! This is great news for this warm weather girl.
Believe it or not, spring break is right around the corner. And based on early bookings, it’s going to be another big year for travelers to head south for some fun in the sun! I have the perfect destination for those looking for just that…St. Lucia!
Nestled in the southeastern part of the Caribbean Sea, St. Lucia represents a unique blend of friendly people, diverse culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. Get ready to escape to a world where beauty knows no bounds, and adventure awaits at every turn!
With so much to see and do on this beautiful island, it’s no wonder why people from all corners of the world flock here every year. Last May, Allan and I spent a week exploring the island, and I can personally attest to the magic that St. Lucia exudes in every aspect of island life.
Let me be your personal guide as I take you on a tour below through the wonders of this Caribbean Island paradise.
Unforgettable Accommodations
From premium all-inclusive resorts to private villas, St. Lucia has a variety of lodging options to fit any budget and preference. The island provides endless opportunities for relaxation and excitement, including many wonderful accommodations that are ideal for families, couples, and groups of friends.
At the five-star Sandals Grande St. Lucian, you can indulge in the exquisite luxury and enjoy all the comforts of the resort while surrounded by the breath-taking beauty of this tropical paradise.
Other options like Ladera Resort and Anse Chastanet are both award-winning accommodations that offer seamless service and irresistible Caribbean charm.
I stayed at two different five-star resorts – Sugar Beach, a Viceroy Resort and Zoetry Marigot Bay and both were fabulous in their own way!
Sugar Beach Resort: Where Dreams Become Reality
Prepare to be enchanted as you are whisked away to the luxurious Sugar Beach Resort, a slice of heaven nestled between the majestic Pitons.
Sugar Beach Resort is located in the southern town of Soufrière, nestled between the green peaks of Petit Piton and Gros Piton. The resort has 96 beautifully appointed guest rooms, cottages, villas, and beachfront bungalows. Every accommodation type features a private plunge pool or private pool along with modern amenities like air-conditioning, satellite TV, and Wi-Fi.
The Rainforest Spa
Don’t miss the chance to rejuvenate your body and soul at the resort’s world-class Rainforest Spa, where relaxation and serenity await. They offer a variety of tantalizing treatments and I had the chance to experience their Healing Coconut Milk massage. It was so relaxing and a perfect way to end our day!
Delectable Dining
Sugar Beach Resort boasts a unique dining experience at the restaurant overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Every Wednesday they have a Latin Fiesta night where both authentic Mexican and Latin food is served. The menu highlights include classic dishes from Quesadillas to Fajitas as well as cooking on their open fire grill with wood and charcoal as the Argentinians do. The food is locally sourced and quite delicious.
Zoetry Marigot Bay: Your Sanctuary of Serenity
Prepare to be enchanted by the Zoetry Marigot Bay Resort, where tranquility and luxury intertwine in perfect harmony. The resort is located on the beautiful harbor of Marigot Bay and offers elegant suite-style rooms. This luxury boutique resort features elegant colonial Caribbean style decor, air conditioning, ceiling fans, full kitchens, flat-screen TVs, and surround systems making it a dream location for a romantic honeymoon or a relaxing vacation. It’s a quiet oasis where every detail has been meticulously curated for your ultimate comfort.
The Zoetry Experience
The resort offers many unforgettable experiences. There’s nothing better than a sunset cruise along the shimmering waters of Marigot Bay, sipping on delectable cocktails as the golden sun bids the day farewell.
There are so many hiking trails around the area that we picked one and headed to the top so we could have a better view of Marigot Bay. It was a fun morning workout.
Or if you want to immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture, head to the vibrant Castries Market, where you’ll be tantalized by the sights, sounds, and flavors of Saint Lucia.
Unlock the Natural Wonders of Saint Lucia
Beyond the mesmerizing resorts, Saint Lucia holds a treasure trove of natural wonders waiting to be discovered. St. Lucia’s rich natural environment is what makes it unique. It’s the perfect gateway to encounter natural biodiversity and habitats.
There are so many activities on and around the island that you will leave breathless and craving more! Embark on a hike through the lush rainforests to witness the breathtaking beauty of the majestic Pitons up close. Or head out on one of the trails until you end up at Superman Falls. No visit to Saint Lucia is complete without a dip in the world-famous Diamond Falls. All three of these were fun adventures!
If you love snorkeling or scuba diving, then suit up and jump in the water to see the kaleidoscopic world beneath the waves. It’s truly magical!
And for those that want to soar high above the treetops, head to the rainforest for an exhilarating thrill across the zip lines.
One of our favorites was Sulphur Springs Park, home to the dormant Soufriere volcano as well as black-water pool baths whose volcano-heated, mineral-rich water is said to help reduce stress as well as heal skin ailments. Be prepared to get dirty but after rinsing off your skin will feel very soft!
Culinary Delights
St. Lucia is home to some of the world’s most delectable and flavorful dishes. The island features a vast array of restaurants, bistros, and cafes, each offering its unique style of Caribbean cuisine. Whether you’re seeking a romantic candlelit dinner overlooking the sea, a casual meal with friends or family, or a locally inspired dish from a street vendor, St. Lucia has it all.

Throughout 2023, many of us had the privilege of journeying to more than 100 destinations all over the globe, creating unforgettable memories, and capturing the magic of it all through the lens of our cameras.
Our travels were not just about visiting new places but about broadening our horizons, immersing ourselves in diverse cultures, savoring mouthwatering cuisine, and forging connections with people from all walks of life.
Pictures truly have a remarkable way of bringing our travel experiences to life.
And yes…a picture is worth a thousand words!
My grandfather and I shared a love for National Geographic magazine. Every month when he was done reading his copy, he’d wrap it up and send it to me. Once in my hands, I’d pour over the fantastic images of faraway places—places I could hardly believe existed! The photos were intriguing, brought about curiosity and created a desire to actually put my eyes on the places or people that were featured! I loved exploring the world by turning the pages of this magazine.
This not only inspired my love of travel, but a passion for photography. I received my first camera in the 4th grade and began filtering my world through my camera lens.
Since then, I’ve made filling up my passport pages a top priority—letting my photographer’s eye lead the way!
Photography allows us to capture memories, stories, and different perspectives. It’s a way of communicating and documenting moments in time. Every image adds up to create a story, which is the story of your life. It captures your experiences, passions, joys, and sadness. Taking photographs is one of the most effective ways to capture these emotions.
The pictures you’ve taken of your travels this year, have been inspiring, exciting, reflected a sense of discovery, been heartwarming and a true pleasure to see!
Pictures help us appreciate the little things in life that could otherwise be taken for granted.
I, too, have enjoyed taking pictures of our group tours and sharing them to inspire you to travel. If you haven’t already, I invite you to explore the thousands of captivating photos grouped by destination on our social media accounts. Hello everyone! A special warm welcome to many of you who are new to receiving my newsletter. I hope you find joy and inspiration from the stories and tips I share about travel.
October 1st has ushered in the embrace of fall, with leaves starting to change into an array of colors, the cool breeze introducing a gentle chill, and the spirit of football uniting communities. Time surely flies, doesn’t it?
As the summer adventures wrap up, the quest for weekend getaways to keep the spirit of exploration alive is on the rise. There are many hidden gems awaiting your discovery close to where you live.
The phrase ‘don’t go chasing waterfalls’ might ring a bell, but here in North Carolina, it’s a tradition worth breaking. With an abundance of waterfalls and accompanying hikes varying from towering falls to tranquil cascades, the state is a haven for nature enthusiasts.
Our slice of North Carolina is particularly rich in this natural beauty. The spectacle of a waterfall, often the cherry on top after a scenic mountain drive or a rewarding hike, is indeed a sight to behold.
Asheville, NC and the encompassing Blue Ridge Mountains are a hotspot for waterfall chasers. Whether along hiking trails, beside the road, or visible from the comfort of your car, the waterfalls here are as diverse as they are beautiful.
Recently, we stumbled upon 10 treasures in the Western Carolinas. Sometimes, the most enchanting spots are nestled in our backyards. Take a moment to revel in the natural beauty surrounding you—it’s truly everywhere!
SOCO FALLS and MINGO FALLS
There are two spectacular waterfalls on the Cherokee Indian Reservation!!
Double waterfalls are a rarity and this one is a hidden gem. Soco Falls (above left), located just a short walk off the main road, is a perfect way to start your scenic adventure. The falls sit right in between Maggie Valley and the Cherokee Indian Reservation.
Mingo Falls (above right) – meaning “Big Bear” in the Cherokee Language is located in the Big Cove community just north of Cherokee. A hidden gem hiding in the Smokies, the beautiful Mingo Falls is accessed by a short and brisk 0.4-mile hike inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. The 120-foot fall is always impressive, but especially after a large rainfall which causes the cascade to flow in full force.
JUNEY WHANK, TOM BRANCH and INDIAN CREEK FALLS
The Deep Creek area of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is known for its streams, hiking trails and waterfalls and is a beautiful area of the park. It is home to 3 waterfalls – Juney Whank, Tom Branch and Indian Creek Falls. There are two loop trails that take you to all three: Three Waterfalls Loop (2.4 miles) and Deep Creek-Indian Creek Loop (5 miles). This is a popular area for tubing and gets quite busy during the summer months.
Tom Branch (above left) is located in the Deep Creek area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a simple, but gorgeous waterfall, that gently falls into the famous Deep Creek. It’s the first waterfall you will encounter on the loop. It is enjoyable to watch tubers go past the bottom of the falls. You have a good view from across the creek.
Juney Whank Falls (above center) is divided into an upper and lower section. Both can be viewed from the footbridge which crosses Juney Whank Branch at the falls. Together they drop 90 feet from top to bottom. The stream and falls are said to be named after a Mr. Junaluska “Juney” Whank, who may be buried in the area.
Indian Creek Falls (above right) is the largest of the three waterfalls in the Deep Creek section of Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The trail to the falls is wide, paved and mostly flat. You may want to sit for a while and enjoy the sound of the rushing water!
CULLASAJA FALLS
Cullasaja Falls can be seen from the roadside on US Highway 64 (called Mountain Waters Scenic Highway & Waterfall Byway), 8.8 miles west of Highlands, along a very narrow, curvy stretch of highway through the the Cullasaja River Gorge in Nantahala National Forest. What a beautiful cliffside drive!
BRIDAL VEIL FALLS
On the way to the Highlands, we spotted at beautiful sight, Bridal Veil Falls. It has been famous for generations as the only waterfall in North Carolina you can drive behind. However, the section of road behind the falls is now blocked off from automobiles for safety. This allows you to walk behind and enjoy it more. (The picture on the left was taken when I stood underneath the falls.) The 60-ft. waterfall in Nantahala National Forest doesn’t have a large volume of water unless it is right after a big rain. Therefore, it is safe and fun to stand behind it!
DRY FALLS
Dry Falls, a popular waterfall located a few miles outside of Highlands, gives you the rare treat of walking safely behind a waterfall. This 75-ft. tall waterfall in the Nantahala National Forest, flows over a cliff, allowing you to walk behind the falls and stay dry (hence the name). During rainy spells when the water volume is higher, the spray will prevent you from staying totally dry.
GLEN FALLS (a triple waterfall)
What a gorgeous place to view! Glen Falls is a triple waterfall near Highlands with 4 scenic stops along a 2-mile hike. The upper and middle cascades are the most beautiful. These falls are a great way to spend time in the woods relaxing and taking in the views!
If you love to find waterfalls, then Western North Carolina is the place for you!! Travel still remains one of the BEST ways to feel a global interconnectedness with humanity and in this case…nature!
Now, for those with a desire for an international adventure, may I entice you with the beauty of Icelandic waterfalls? Iceland, with its surreal landscapes and exquisite falls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, offers quite an experience for waterfall aficionados. The land of fire and ice, while known for its geysers and glaciers, houses cascades that are nothing short of magical.
So whether it’s the local scenic beauties or the majestic falls of Iceland, the world is brimming with places that await your discovery. Let’s keep the spirit of exploration aflame, and when you’re ready for your next adventure, whether local or beyond, I’m here to help guide your journey.

Europe is still a fan favorite! The Caribbean islands are on everyone’s mind. And some prefer exploring close to home!
Hello everyone! I’m glad to be back in your inbox sharing travel inspiration. A warm welcome to many of you that are new to receiving my newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading it and are energized by all that I share on travel.
It’s hard to believe summer is coming to an end and fall is right around the corner. Where did the time go? I know for many of you, your children are back in school and the routine of packing lunches, homework, fall sports and carpooling is in full swing. I wish everyone a successful and memorable school year!
For those of us that are empty nesters, I know you love the flexibility and opportunity to travel anytime and anywhere. There’s no better time than now to explore a new destination.
And XOOM Tours travelers are leading the way. I love seeing everyone’s pictures and hearing their stories on how they are enriched by their adventures.
Here’s some great news! The demand for travel is still “extraordinary”. Many of you traveled to far off destinations this past spring and during the summer. Europe was a hot spot with Italy and Greece as the top two destinations. Why? The culture, food, history, architecture and the people.
But those weren’t the only 2 countries you visited. Many of you ventured to France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary and Ireland. Some even traveled as far away as Egypt to climb the pyramids while others visited Alaska, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Disney World, Jamaica, Cancun and St. Lucia.
What did you do? You visited historical sites, tried new cuisines, hung out with the locals, took cooking classes, tasted wine from regions all over the world, traveled around by train, buses or with a private driver/guide, saw the Sphinx up close, swam in the Adriatic Sea, met Minnie Mouse, kayaked around glaciers in Alaska, learned about the 2 sides of Budapest, saw volcanoes, hiked or walked miles and most importantly bonded with your friends and family.
Thank you for trusting us with your most valuable asset…your travel memories. We were thrilled you partnered with us to create the trip of a lifetime!
“The best education you will ever get is traveling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”
Take a look below at some of our recent XOOM Travelers and see what they had to say about their adventures!
Recently, Virtuoso, a network of agencies that specializes in experiential and luxury travel, conducted a survey and found that 45 percent of travelers are excited about traveling more now than ever. Where do they want to travel? Some still prefer to stay close to home. While others want to venture further to destinations such as Bora Bora, Patagonia, South Africa or Slovenia.
But with this surge in travel that will continue into the fall, comes limited availability, price increases, and less-flexible cancellation policies.
Now more than ever, it’s important to partner with an advisor like me, who can help you navigate today’s travel landscape.
Here are the Top Five Travel Destinations for this Fall
According to industry booking data, these are the most in-demand destinations for fall travel:
Number 1: The United States
Some travelers prefer to explore the United States since there are so many amazing places to see and visit. For them, a classic road trip may fill their desires. Many share they can’t wait to explore more under-the-radar National Parks, while others are looking forward to the start of ski season in destinations such as Park City, Telluride and Vail. Others love the colorful leaves and the scenic drives through Maine, New Hampshire, Michigan, Georgia and New Mexico. And Hawaii is high on the list because it’s a picture-perfect destination any time of year.
Europe has been in demand all summer (one of the top ten most popular travel destinations), and with the Euro being fairly equal to the U.S. dollar, it continues to drive demand. Of course, Italy is a fan favorite, consistently at the top of many people’s bucket list. Its long Mediterranean coastline and world-famous cities like Rome, Vatican City, Florence, Venice, and Milan, each dominated by majestic cathedrals and soaked in history, simply astound every traveler. If a grand Italian tour is on your bucket list, then you need to plan ahead because availability is becoming more limited.
There’s a lot to love about Mexico: With fabulous beaches, ancient ruins, alluring culture, dynamic cities, and mouthwatering cuisine, Mexico is truly a tropical treasure and a destination that has something special for everyone.
All this variety is a short flight away from many cities in North America, making it easy to get away.
France is another top destination. Why? They will be hosting the 2024 Olympics and have all sorts of fan fare in preparation for this world wide celebration.
In May 2024, 10,000 Torch Bearers will be forming a relay to celebrate the arrival of the Games in France. France will be welcoming the Torch again, after previously welcoming it for the Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble (1968) and the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Albertville (1992).
After being lit in Olympia, Greece, the Olympic Torch will start its journey at sea, on board the Bélem, a majestic three-masted ship, crossing the Mediterranean from Athens to Marseille. The Olympic Torch Relay will then set out across France, showcasing its various regions and communities, from the mainland to overseas departments and territories, offering everyone the possibility to see the Torch.
What a perfect time to visit many cities in France and catch the Olympic torch relay in action.
Fall river cruises down the Seine promise picturesque medieval villages and countless wine tasting opportunities. One of the highlights of river cruising is the opportunity to explore the charming, historical towns and cities in the various ports. In some areas, a river may even be the only access. This means that we as travelers get to travel directly into the heart of small villages and get an insider’s view of exotic locales otherwise hard to reach.
Some of my most memorable traveling experiences are when I hung out with the locals and learned more about their culture and heritage through their eyes.
Turks & Caicos have some of the best beaches in the world! Pristine white sand and crystal-clear ocean water with turquoise and blue hues define the coasts. And I’m not talking about one or two beaches…every island has miles of wonderful secluded beaches. The crown jewel is the award winning Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales.
One trend I have seen this summer: lots of travelers are seeking out restorative wellness escapes. There aren’t many better places to tune out than in a cabana on a pristine stretch of beach, and the Turks and Caicos Islands are home to plenty of them. And one huge bonus…there are many quick, 90-minute direct flights from Miami to Turks. So within a few hours you can have your toes in the sand and a drink in your hand! Sounds inviting, doesn’t it?!! :>
“Take vacations, go as many places as you can. You can always make money, you can’t always make memories.”
It is so exciting to see everyone is traveling all over the world. It is an incredible feeling experiencing the sights and sounds of so many beautiful places. It’s hard to describe and something you need to experience yourself. So… on that note… where would you like to travel next?
The world is open and waiting for you! If it’s not the U.S., Italy, Mexico, France or Turks and Caicos, where would you like to go? How about Germany for Oktoberfest? Or the Canadian Rockies by train? Or an African Safari? Or a river cruise to see the Christmas Markets? In fact, anywhere sounds amazing to me!! How about you?
As your Travel Advisor, I make sure you don’t miss out on extraordinary experiences that you may not be aware of or cannot get on your own, as they are only available through my exclusive global network of travel partners and suppliers.

For those that have been following me, you know I take 4 or 5 groups on tour every year. The appeal is simple: You + other travelers + cool experiences + a new part of the world = Social Travel. I’ll not only share the results in my next newsletter, but I’ll also create a new group tour to one, if not multiple destinations that are most highly desired. It’s February and that means “love is in the air”. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Who is your special Valentine, your sweetheart, the one who will receive a special greeting or a treasure that reflects your love on February 14th? I can tell you who has stolen my heart! It’s definitely this cutie pie!
I love spending time with our grandson. He has the sweetest personality and is so much fun. Whenever he visits, it’s like preschool. We make cookies, play Lego’s, go for nature hikes, play at the park, and ride bikes. But one of my favorite things to do is creating footprint art projects together. Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much fun we had painting these masterpieces a few years ago. One was shaped into a heart and the other like a ladybug. It was fun hearing him laugh when I dabbled paint on his feet because the bristles from the brush tickled his toes. These little treasures are wonderful memories of how tiny and cute his feet were way back when!
It’s a match made in Lisdoonvarna!
While many consider Paris the “City of Love”, there is another gem of a place that Allan and I discovered on our adventure through Ireland a few years ago. As we were driving through the lush, green countryside, we came upon a quaint town in County Clare. We noticed the beautiful murals painted on the buildings and the signs of love and peace throughout the town. So, we decided to stop and take a look around.
Does Lisdoonvarna sound familiar? To our surprise, this gem of a find is famous for 2 very large festivals that attract thousands of people every year. One is for music and the other for matchmaking! Imagine that!
“In life it’s not where you go, it’s who you travel with.”
Matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match. Find me a find. Catch me a catch…in Ireland that is.
Quite a catchy tune! I’ll bet you’re singing along. After all, it is February…the month of Love and Romance.
Matchmaking has been a long-standing Irish tradition that began over 150 years ago in Lisdoonvarna, a rural spa town located in County Clare on Ireland’s Atlantic coast. On the Emerald Isle today, it’s synonymous with only one thing: love.
“Traveling in the company of those we love is home in motion.”
Every fall, the town is home to a huge matchmaking festival, where thousands of people (like 20,000…wow!) flock to find “The One.” This fun-filled tradition began years ago when upper class visitors came to Lisdoonvarna to enjoy the mineral spas and to find a suitable match for their children. The parents would take their children to social gatherings, sporting events and musical evenings with the hopes that courtships would blossom.
Lisdoonvarna was developed around The Royal Spa Hotel, a historic landmark that opened in 1832. In 1887, the West Clare Railway Station opened and contributed towards the development of the town. From that time onward, until the invention of an automobile, tourists travelled from the train in pony and trap to ”The Spa”.
Who is Irelands most famous Matchmaker?
Well, you can’t have a match without a matchmaker! Meet Willie Daly, a third-generation Irish matchmaker who LOVES love! He is passionate about helping hopeful singles, of all ages and nationalities, find a life partner.
What’s his secret to success? He believes in the old-fashioned method of gathering the couples together for a conversation and then encouraging them to dance. He feels it’s the best way to get the passion flowing.
Interestingly, Willie carries around a notebook that he affectionately calls his “Lucky Book”. This ancient matchmaking book has special romantic powers. It also has a collection of love-seeking profiles dating back 150 years. Now that’s some real record keeping! Imagine the profiles from then until now! I’d love to see what treasures and advice he has on the pages of his book.
Willie claims, “If you touch this ‘love ledger’ you’ll be in love and married inside of six months. If you are already married, you will recreate the honeymoon period you first had”.
WOW! Now that is some secret sauce!
Willie’s track record is pretty impressive. Since he started out as a matchmaker 50 years ago, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, he has matched over 3,000 couples. Matchmaking is in his blood and he knows instinctively what makes a good match. He surely has the hang of this!
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier!” Mother Theresa
So, in honor of Valentine’s Day and Willie Day, Ireland’s most famous matchmaker, let’s partner together to plan a trip to Ireland for September 2023….just in time for the next Matchmaking Festival! You never know what kind of spice he will add to your life!
After all, love makes the world go round. Spreading more will benefit you, those around you and the whole world!

2023 has started with a bang and the demand for travel is at an all-time high! We’re all chasing the thrill that comes with discovering a new place or revisiting a favorite destination in an unexpected way. I recently came across an article written by fellow travelers Amy Cassell and Emma Franke for Virtuoso, profiling some interesting new destinations that I think you’ll enjoy.
Virtuoso is the leading global network of luxury travel advisors, who work with top destinations and a vetted portfolio of the best travel brands globally. Travelers who have a Virtuoso Advisor like XOOM Tours can tap into a world of in-the-know expertise, unbelievable travel perks, support throughout their travels, and – most importantly – warmer welcomes, deeper connections, and superior experiences in the places they visit.
Virtuoso travel advisors reveal the under-the-radar spots on their Wanderlists.
It’s exciting to discover a new destination or revisit a favorite place in an unexpected way. We asked Virtuoso travel advisors and industry pros to tell us about the locales that have them packing their bags. They gave us a peek inside their Wanderlists, plus shared the lowdown on where you’ll find more locals than tourists beside you on the beach, where you can see cherry blossoms without the throngs, and how to take in stark desert expanses from the cocktail car of a Victorian-era train. Their secrets and sound advice make for a year’s worth of grand adventure – we’ll see you out there.
As your Travel Advisor, I make sure you don’t miss out on extraordinary experiences that you may not be aware of or cannot get on your own, as they are only available through our exclusive global network of travel partners and suppliers.
I’ll use inside information to arrange behind the scene tours, secure access into exclusive events, have your tours and excursions scheduled at the best times, provide upgrades and amenities when available and more.
My goal is that you return from your vacation saying, “WOW! That was an amazing experience!”
If WOW is what you’re looking for, let’s get started!

“So much of who we are is where we have been!” -William Langewiesche
This year we saw the return of travel come back fast and furiously, with an immense uptick around the world. Based on my current bookings, 2023 is going to set a record. Perhaps more than any year prior, 2023 deserves expansive horizons—be they crystal blue, history or heritage harboring, multi-generational, or ice covered. Coming out of the last few years, we all need one of those vacations that jumpstarts your personal renaissance.
As you’ve come to know me, I’m never short on inspiring places and experiences for you. There are so many life changing places to visit in the world. Some are magical, some are ancient, and some are downright gorgeous. All will have you dreaming of them before you arrive. After you visit them, they become a part of you, forming lifelong memories and altering the way you see the world.
However, with all the excitement, we need to move quickly and seize the opportunity, as demand is strong, and the availability is becoming more and more limited in certain destinations.
Below is a glimpse into a few of the 100+ fun filled and awe-inspiring XOOM Tours adventures enjoyed in 2022. I hope they inspire you to act like they inspire me.
Canadian Rockies
Great adventures & good friends!
Canada is one beautiful country with breathtaking views in every direction! I led a small group tour on a spectacular train adventure through the snowcapped Canadian Rockies starting in Vancouver with stops in Kamloops, Jasper, Lake Louise (a fan favorite!), Banff and Calgary. One of the best parts of the trip was sharing this beautiful country with friends!
Céad Míle Fáilte…A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!
Ireland…the land of roving green countryside, dramatic coastline, the Titanic, shamrocks, leprechauns, St. Patrick’s Day, prehistoric stone megaliths, medieval castles, Guiness, lively music, traditional dancing and oh so yummy food! John, Cathy, Ken and Mary spent the afternoon at Bronagh’s home in the countryside north of Dublin, where she taught them how to prepare and bake traditional Irish buttermilk scones and lemon drizzle cakes. They enjoyed their sweet treats while sipping a cup of freshly made tea and a warm bowl of potato leek soup. So delicious!!
Ciao Italia
Italy was a popular favorite in 2022 and still is as we head into 2023. From Venice to Florence, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Ravello, Isle of Capri and Naples…there is so much history, an abundance of cultural experiences, fabulous food and wine, incredible museums, beautiful countryside and a wealth of artistic masterpieces all throughout the country.
Here Daniel, Kristin, Addie & Ansley enjoyed a private Venetian mask making workshop with a local artisan. They learned the history of the mask while creating their masterpieces out of paper mache, gold leaf, plumes and tulle. They loved the mask making along with a Chianti wine tour and tasting in San Gimignano, pizza making class in Florence, pasta making class in Rome, and a chartered boat tour from Positano to Capri.
The Beauty of the Greek Isles
Greece is also another one of our top destinations. The mainland has thousands of years of history, culture, food, wine and beaches. Then add in 227 beautiful islands that are also part of the country and it becomes obvious why its at the top of many people’s bucket list.
Honeymooners, Madidi and Jesse, enjoyed a “Flavor of Athens” food tour and then a private guided visit to the Acropolis. They also jumped on a plane and spent a few days on Mykonos, visiting the iconic windmills which stand facing the sea. The windmills were used to grind grain into flour until the early 20th century.
They also stopped by the scenic corners of the island…Alefkántra or “Little Venice” an 18th century district, dominated by grand captains’ mansions with colorful balconies and stylish windows. It has been said that behind these doors above the waterline, pirates would store their loot. Today they have been converted to bars and restaurants and the view of the sparkling Aegean Sea from their balconies is dazzling.
They ended their honeymoon on the picturesque island of Santorini, resting, relaxing, swimming and relishing the beautiful views from their resort. Their favorite part was the sunset cruise on their last night in Santorini.
Cruising the Mighty Mississippi River
What a fun way to travel…on a luxurious steamboat to experience the history, culture, traditions, and American authenticity that can only be found along the shores of the Mississippi River. What’s really neat is that the American Queen has a true steam engine that’s used to drive the paddle wheel. It’s also is the only ship in their fleet that has a calliope.
It was fun visiting Nottoway, the largest Antebellum Mansion in the south, stopping at Angola Prison to learn how Burl Cain, the prison warden, became committed to bringing hope to the prisoners, stopping in Natchez to learn how to make the best biscuits from the renowned chef Regina Charboneau and ending in Nashville with a visit to Graceland. It’s was an all-out American adventure!
The Beauty of the Alaskan Wilderness
Alaska, known as “The Last Frontier”, is an outdoor mecca to experience beautiful, untouched land. There’s no shortage of wild mountain landscapes, beautiful glaciers, an abundant wildlife that will pull you in with its beauty and refuse to let you go from its icy grip.
The highlight was viewing Mendenhall Glacier from the windows of a helicopter and then landing on top. We strapped on our grampons and walked around, being careful not to get caught in one of the deep crevices. We also found a stream of glacier water, filled our water bottles and tasted the most refreshing icy cold water! Truly an incredibly peaceful and awe-inspiring experience!
Our Nation’s Capital – Washington, DC
There’s no better place to learn about the history of the United States than in Washington, DC.
Mika, Davy & Davis stopped at Mt. Vernon first to visit George Washington’s estate and then headed to the city for a private guided tour of the U.S. Capitol. They loved the scavenger hunt I created which led them to find artifacts around the city and in the many Smithsonian’s.
One of their highlights was touring the war memorials and presidential monuments with Joann, a local guide, not by walking but by riding on a Segway. What a fun way to move from site to site!
Davis was also fascinated by all the neat things in the International Spy Museum.
They ended their visit by watching the changing of the guards at Arlington National Cemetery…quite the moving ceremony.
The Natural Beauty of St. Croix
St. Croix is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. It’s known for its gorgeous beaches, fine dining, golf courses and world class recreational activities.
Jake and Laurie celebrated their honeymoon on St. Croix where they spent the week relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. They also enjoyed “off roading” through the rainforest and then hiking down the cliff so they could swim in the tide pools.
I love this picture of them snorkeling in the crystal-clear blue waters of the Caribbean. They found this beautiful spot while on an all-day catamaran adventure to Buck Island.
Exploring their family’s Polish Heritage
Poland is a wonderful European country with vast landscapes, castles that tower over picturesque cities, incredible food from their cultural roots, sandy beaches, folk art villages and beautifully preserved traditions. It’s also a country of historical and personal significance to Karen, Dave, their 3 sons and their wives.
To celebrate their family heritage, they traveled on an epic 14-day journey visiting many of the cities and villages that were significant to their grandmother and their ancestors. Here is a photo of them at a cooking school in Warsaw, where they learned how to make many of their family favorites from a local Polish chef! They said is was definitely something that made their trip special.
Off to Charleston…another Educational Journey
There’s no doubt that travel is an incredible teacher. It allows you to bring the lessons learned in the classroom to life in powerful, even life-changing ways. It fosters curiosity, strengthens friendships, and even sparks new ones.
I love taking students on educational journeys and watching them connect the dots from what they learn. Charleston, SC and Washington, DC are 2 of our favorite places to share with students. There is so much history, culture and engaging activities for everyone in both cities!
