Hello from Egypt! Experience it Now, Like Never Before!

Hello,

Greetings from Cairo, Egypt. Allan and I arrived here on Thursday afternoon and have been on the go since we touched down. Egypt is the adventure of a lifetime. There are so many different experiences to enjoy and destinations to discover. It’s hard to choose one reason why you should visit Egypt. They have amazing weather year-round (It’s 108 degrees today!), the most incredible ancient wonders of the world and a rich history.

The great thing about Egypt is the diversity of the attractions. Each destination has something special about it. Each town and landscape captivate you with unique history, friendly people and stunning nature.

Egypt is home to some of the greatest ancient wonders of the world…Pharaohs, dazzling temples and tombs and historic treasures that wow all who visit…us included!

So why Egypt and why now? We were invited by Atlas Ocean Voyages to experience their brand spanking new to the cruise world all-inclusive small ship. They sail to unique and adventurous locations such as Antarctica and Egypt.

Their 188-passenger ship has spectacular, spacious accommodations (see below) with touches of elegance shown in every aspect from L’Occitane bath products, Egyptian cotton bed linens and terry cloth robes & slippers. Their all-inclusive experience includes choice of complimentary excursions in every port, premium beverages, prepaid gratuities, and complimentary roundtrip commercial airfare.

I will share our experience through my Facebook and Instagram pages.

Our adventure began with exploring Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria the last few days. And because there was so much to see and do, we added a few days at the beginning of the trip and created a private tour with an English-speaking Egyptologist guide to immerse ourselves and experience the civilization of Ancient Egypt. Many of the sites we visited are part of the “top 10 experiences” listed below. Amazing! Incredible! Lots of checking off a bucket list.

Egypt has more than 3,000 years of history and the spirit of adventure runs deep as we trek through well-known destinations and remote ports of the Mediterranean. Sounds fun, doesn’t it!

Next, we will board the “World Navigator” and sail off at sunset to visit Paphos, Cyprus and then to the Greek Islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Patmos. This particular sailing is a 9-Night Cairo to Athens: Pyramids and Fortresses.

We are doing the same when we arrive in Athens by extending our trip to get a true local feeling! We’ve scheduled a food tour to become an authentic Athenian, along with a guided tour of the sacred rock of the Acropolis and one of the world’s most important historical structures, the Parthenon.

Follow along on my social media where I’ll be posting highlights daily.

In the meantime, enjoy a preview of what’s to come. I’m highlighting the Egypt Bucket List: 10 Unbelievable Experiences

These 10 only touch the surface and are concentrated in Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria. There is so much more to see if you have the time and can spend at least 7-10 days if not more.

Egypt: 10 Unbelievable Experiences

1. The Pyramids and Great Sphinx of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza were built almost 5,000 years ago and is the last surviving of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops, is the oldest of the three main pyramids on the Giza plateau and is usually at the top of most visitors’ lists of attractions to see.

2. Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum houses the world’s largest collection of pharaonic antiquities anywhere in the world with more than 120,000 statues, jewelry and antique treasure pieces. The museum’s two most viewed collections are the golden treasures unearthed from Tutankhamen’s tomb along with the fascinating Royal Mummies exhibit room.

3. Cruise on the River Nile – The World’s Longest River

The Nile runs through 11 African countries and was instrumental in the formation of ancient Egypt. It is spiritually significant as Ancient Egyptians believed the east represented birth, and the west where the sun set, represented death.  That’s why all tombs are located west of the Nile.

4. Explore Historic Cairo

Cairo is the capital of Egypt.  And Islamic Cairo is the historic heart of the city. Walking along the streets you’ll see one of the largest collections of historic architecture in the Islamic world. Some of the top things to do include visiting Al-Azhar Mosque, visiting Salah El-Din Citadel, taking a stroll down Al-Muizz li-Din Allah al-Fatima Street (al-Muizz for short), shopping in Khan el-Khalili, and visiting Al-Rifa’i Mosque.

5. World’s Oldest Open-Air Market

The Khan El-Khalili souk is a very large maze filled with stands of spices, food, clothing, leather goods, jewelry, antiques and so much more. This is the go-to place for souvenir shopping. The best part is you can have fun bargaining as nobody pays retail here.

6. Marvel at the Karnak Temple

The Karnak Temple is the second most visited site in Egypt, after the Pyramids of Giza. It is also the second largest temple complex in the world (Angkor Wat in Cambodia is the largest). One of the more famous settings is the Great Hypostyle Hall, an awe-inspiring section where the streets are lined with ram-headed sphinxes as you enter the main hall with 134 massive columns arranged in 16 rows. Each column tells a s story with beautiful reliefs on the pylons.

7. Explore the Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings has been the site of royal burials in Egypt since 2100 BC. It’s now home to 63 incredible royal tombs. Although the site has decayed over the centuries due to treasure hunters and floods; the Valley of the Kings still remains an impressive ancient site to explore with many believing there are more undiscovered tombs.  This area is also home to the tomb of King Tut “Tautankhamun”.

8. Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Trip over Luxor

Getting up at 3:30 am for a 4:30 am departure has never been so rewarding. Imagine soaring high above the ancient landscape of the Pharaohs in the area called “Valley of the Kings”. Here you’ll have great aerial views and will see how vast the land is below you.

Seeing everything from the air gives you a totally different perspective on the locations of all the landmarks and the engineering achievements it took to construct them.

By having an early start to your day, you’ll see so many sites before the crowds get going. This will bring about great excitement for all you will see that day.

9. Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple looks and feels like a smaller version of Karnak Temple.  What sets it apart is the temple is not dedicated to a cult god or a deified version of the pharaoh in death. Instead, Luxor temple is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship; and is why many of the pharaohs of Egypt were crowned here.

10. Tomb of King Tut “Tutankhamun”

Tutankhamun, commonly referred to as King Tut, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who was the last of his royal family to rule during the end of the 18th Dynasty.

His tomb was discovered in 1922 and contained thousands of artifacts, a sarcophagus containing his mummy, and a now-famous headdress. It took almost ten years to catalog the contents of the tomb. Since the tomb’s discovery, King Tut has become the world’s most well-known Egyptian pharaoh.

In addition to the 10 “Bucket List” sites to visit in Egypt, I’m linking you to an article on my website featuring a group of Travel Advisors exploring the land of the pharaohs with Big Five Tours & Expeditions, one of my featured tour partners in Egypt. I hope you enjoy!

Incredible Bucket List-Worthy Vacations!

The reasons why people love to travel are varied, and very personal. One of the greatest advantages of travel is that it takes you on a journey into new worlds that you would have never been exposed to. Traveling allows you to meet people of different cultures, with diverse traditions and distinctive lifestyles. It’s great for your overall health. It helps you rediscover yourself. It strengthens relationships. It helps you gain new friends. It’s educational. It creates everlasting memories. It provides real-life experiences. It enhances your tolerance for uncertainty. It allows you to disconnect from your everyday life.

And the benefits of traveling are not a one-time thing. As you are out exploring these newfound worlds, take a moment to reflect not only on the differences that you observe in their lifestyle and behavior but on the things that unite us.

It’s for these reasons plus a whole lot more that I love traveling! I love planning travel. I love to hear stories and see pictures of people traveling. I love everything about travel and traveling.

Next week I’m excited as I’m off for another adventure that’ll knock off a few items on my travel bucket list. I’ll be heading to Egypt, Cyprus and Greece. There I’ll have the opportunity to see the Great Pyramids of Giza (believed to be the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), King Tut’s Tomb in Luxor and The Temple of Karnak. I’ll also visit the Greek islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes (Lindos) and Patmos. I can’t wait to share with you everything I’ll experience on my trip.

The more I travel, the more my passion for finding new travel experiences grows, and so then does my bucket list. That is why I’m also excited for my visit to Cyprus so I can check out the Adonis Baths in my search for long-lasting youth 😊.

With that in mind, and as I was reflecting on this week’s newsletter, two themes kept coming to me very clearly – One is that we only have one life to live, and we are not living a practice run for our future. The other is that the world would be a much better place if everyone traveled.

This is the most valuable product you need when you travel!

It’s so much fun having clients travel all over the world enjoying incredible and unforgettable experiences tailored to their specific interests that they didn’t even know were possible.

There’s nothing better than surprising them with travel perks like a complimentary room upgrade upon arrival, early check-in or late check-out, complimentary daily breakfast, complimentary WIFI, spa or food and beverage credits, or exclusive travel experiences with VIP access.

Recently, I was able to secure a 1 bedroom suite for a family in a Caribbean resort that was sold out both online and when calling the resort directly.

I also had a client rushing to get to the train station in Rome. When she reached the platform, she realized she left her backpack with her passport in a taxi. Ugh! Imagine the panic she felt when she noticed her backpack wasn’t on her back. My “trusted travel partner” in Italy met her and the rest of her group at the train station when they arrived in Florence. He took them to the U.S. Consulate office and within 45 minutes they were on their way with a new passport, minimizing what could have been a major trip interruption. I’m sure you can feel how her sense of panic shifted to relief when she had her new document in her hand!

How was the above possible? This brings me to the most valuable product I offer my clients — Peace of Mind! Yes, peace of mind knowing my travel experience along with my global travel connections are with you every step of the way.

In today’s environment, the rules and regulations are changing daily from state to state and even country to country. There are so many unknown factors to deal with and it’s more important than ever to have a “connected” advisor by your side.

Unity is strength…where there is TEAMWORK and COLLABORATION, wonderful things can be achieved – Mattie Stepanek

My role is to keep track of the ever-changing conditions not only at the time of booking your vacation, but 48-72 hours before you depart until the moment you jump on the plane to head home. I’ll also continually confirm the latest travel restrictions, testing regiments, E-Visas, health declaration requirements, flight cancellations, trip delays and more. In other words, assuring you “Peace of Mind”.

Connections! Connections! Connections!

So how did I become so connected? Beyond the relationships I’ve developed during my personal travel, along with the last 15 years of experience as a Travel Advisor, I’m also a member of Virtuoso through my host agency Gifted Travel Network.

Virtuoso is the leading global network of agencies specializing in luxury and experiential travel, with more than 20,000 advisors. Virtuoso partners with over 2,000+ of the world’s best companies such as hotels, cruise lines, tour operators, destination management companies and more.

Virtuoso Travel Advisors use their personal connections and first hand expertise to craft bespoke trips for clients, including unique experiences, special values, complimentary perks, VIP treatment and rare access.

In a nutshell, Virtuoso is a travel consortium that is the largest and most luxurious of them all.

A travel consortium refers to an organization made up of independent travel agents and agencies that have joined together to increase their buying power and the amenities they are able to provide clients. Consortiums use their networks to negotiate with hotels, resorts, cruise lines, and other suppliers on behalf of their agent members. The resulting “preferred supplier” relationship benefits agency clients in the form of special amenities, upgrades, and special promotions not available to the public.

Examples of Virtuoso Amenities

  • – Room upgrades, subject to availability
    • – Daily breakfast for two
    • – Food & beverage credit or Hotel/Resort credit or Spa credit
    • – Early check-in/late checkout, subject to availability
    • – Special Virtuoso Promotions or Experiences

Virtuoso Travel Week…August 8-12, 2021 82,000 One-on-One Networking Appointments

For the last three years, Virtuoso’s Travel Week has allowed me to exponentially increase the connections and relationships that will make a difference for my clients. This year’s event brought together more than 3,300 luxury travel professionals from 102 countries and featured nearly 82,000 one-on-one networking appointments.

In addition to spending most of my time networking in 15-minute sessions for several hours a day, I also attended professional development training sessions as well as events that focused on adventure, wellness, culinary and family travel. While the size of the event is very large, the meetings and time spent with my partners is incredibly personal, particularly the one-on-one sessions.

Spending this week engaging with these global travel professionals always leaves me incredibly excited. There is so much to see and experience in this world and I can’t wait to share some new ideas for your future travel opportunities.

At the heart of life lie the relationships we have with other people.

Dubai: Unprecedented Opportunity October 2021 – March 2022

Visiting Dubai on its’ own is spectacular. Visiting Dubai while the Dubai World Expo is open is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Dubai is a very safe city to travel to and is very welcoming to American’s. I’ve coordinated several trips recently for clients and their experiences have been nothing short of extraordinary.

The beauty of Dubai knows no bounds and has long been home to record-holding structures like the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Miracle Garden. “In Dubai, we don’t wait for things to happen. We make them happen.”

And this October, they are setting the bar even higher as Dubai showcases the World’s Greatest Show. Expo 2020 Dubai will be a celebration of human brilliance and achievement. It will be an opportunity for people to connect from different corners of the world, to experience the best of art, culture, geography, science, technology, innovation and invention and to set into motion millions of new thoughts and ideas that will make a lasting impact in our lives. They are maintaining the year 2020 in the name as a nod to history and the Expo delay due to Covid.

Top Reasons to Visit Dubai

2. Dubai is Open for Travel

Marhaba! This short greeting means ‘welcome’ in Arabic, the official language of the UAE. But don’t worry, English is the most commonly spoken language in Dubai.

Once a small fishing village in the Arabian Gulf, Dubai is today one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. One of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is home to nearly 200 nationalities and offers a truly memorable experience to all visitors. Whether it is by the banks of the Creek, or at the top of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, Dubai lives and breathes a sense of possibility and innovation. And with an unparalleled coastline, beautiful desert and magnificent cityscapes, memories are just waiting to be made here.

Burj Khalifa – The ‘sky’s the limit’ when you ascend to the 124th floor of the remarkable ‘Burj Khalifa’ as the world’s tallest skyscraper and an iconic symbol of the Dubai skyline.

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah – A hotel that sits on a man-made island and is home to cutting-edge engineering — from the unique man-made beach and infinity pool terrace, to one of the tallest grand atriums at 180 meters high. It’s well worth the visit.

Old Dubai – Journey into Dubai’s past with a visit to the heritage district located on the banks of the Dubai Creek. Once the entryway to the Gulf’s most successful pearl diving port, the Creek’s legendary presence is still felt today as fishermen and merchants crisscross the calm waters in their traditional dhows. Visit the original souks (markets), that both locals and tourists flock to.  A visit to the famous Spice Souk and the Gold Souk is not to be missed.

3. Shopping

Being tax-free definitely, has its rewards. Dubai offers a shopping experience like no other. From global brands to unique finds, the city’s shopping scene is one good reason enough to visit this glamorous side of the world. The city is where you will find Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall in the world. Apart from shops and restaurants, the Dubai Mall houses a towering aquarium, a huge ice rink, and an indoor amusement center. It also features the Dubai Fountain wherein shows are being played by schedule. The fountain features world-class light and sound synchronization which, they say, can be viewed from the moon.

4. Entertainment and Adventure

From desert dunes to dancing fountains to inside snow skiing, the sky’s the limit, literally, as you take in Dubai’s unique experiences. With so many options to choose from, I’m going to let the pictures do the talking.

5. The Food

Dubai is popularly dubbed as a melting pot of cultures. People of different nationalities come and live in the city, and they bring in their food, among other cultural gems. Visitors and locals alike are spoiled with an array of cuisines that cater to every taste bud.

Because of the vast history of trade in Dubai, the flavor distinct to the city is widely influenced by the countries who actively brought in and practiced business in the city. Some spices that dominate any traditional Emirati menu include cardamom, saffron, cinnamon, and turmeric.

6. Relaxation

The city boasts of its location and climate being perfect for different outdoor activities such as golf, dune driving, and windsurfing. Alternatively, there are also lots of indoor facilities that promote relaxation such as spas and other wellness centers.

There is so much to discover in Dubai. –Mo Farah
